Dynamic Services and Zoltan

Objective: Develop high-performance dynamic load-balancing and mesh-migration tools for applications using ITAPS technology.

NEW EFFORT IN ITAPS!

Importance: Effective, efficient load balancing and mesh migration are essential to achieving petascale application performance.

Approach: A toolkit of dynamic services, including load-balancing and mesh-migration, uses ITAPS interfaces and Sandia’s Zoltan library.  Approach allows easy incorporation into new and existing applications using ITAPS technology.

Accomplishment: Implemented initial load-balancing interfaces.  Defined parallel interface requirements. Gave invited talk at SciDAC07.  Included work in ITAPS tutorial at SciDAC07.

Mesquite Library

Objective: Develop production-ready software library for mesh quality improvement and r-adaptivity.

Importance: There is no other general purpose mesh improvement library
that provides support for unstructured and hybrid meshes.

Approach: Object-oriented software uses mesh optimization algorithms devised in AMR base R&D.   Full use of ITAPS mesh API for interoperable component capable of assisting SciDAC and other applications to perform accurate, efficient petascale computations.

Accomplishments:  Implemented and tested major portions of the Target-matrix paradigm. Updated to latest ITAPS API.
