TOPS-2 Trilinos Participation

Mike Heroux, Roscoe Bartlett, and Jonathan Hu

Project Goals/Objectives

Goals: Enable scalable parallel applications for ASCR and DOE-SC.

Objectives: Collaborate with application developers and other TOPS-2 colleagues to develop and integrate reusable components in applications.  Create interoperability between various lab components.

Technical Approach

  • Established relationship with DOE-SC apps.
  • Leverage unique Trilinos capabilities:
    • Scalable unstructured preconditioners.
    • Block Krylov linear & eigen solvers.
    • Optimization solvers.
    • OO design, SE processes, and more.
  • Enhance interoperability between Trilinos, PETSc:  Current users of either framework should have easy access to capabilities of the other.

Importance to ASCR, DOE-SC, SNL

  • Ensure related efforts are complementary: PETSc, Hypre, SuperLU, Trilinos
    similar but complementary.
  • Enhance toolset available to DOE-SC apps: Make Trilinos capabilities available.
  • Expand range of application using Trilinos.

Accomplishments/Highlights

  • Participation in:
    • ACTS Toolkit workshop.
    • E3 Town Hall meetings
    • CScADS workshop.
    • SciDAC conference.
  • Identified potential apps collaborators.
  • Plans in place for interoperability work.
  • Prepared to move quickly once funding starts in FY08.
